The drought in 2015 forced the community of La Garita Vieja to ration water, leaving their residents without access to water for most of the day, including the local elementary school.
As a result, the school was forced to close when the water was turned off, having a significant negative impact on the children’s education.
A water storage tank and tower were donated in early 2015 to the school to ensure that there was always water available for the students and staff. Since the donation was been made, the school has been able to remain open even when water is shut off in the rest of the community.
