Growing Together with Cabo Velas
Our story began in 2016 by listening to a community filled with talent, dreams, and a strong desire to move forward.
Since then, Futuro Brillante has worked to turn needs into opportunities through programs that support children, young people, families, and adults at different stages of life.
We do this from Matapalo, always working hand in hand with the community and building partnerships with public institutions, private companies, and nonprofit organizations that share our vision of a Cabo Velas with greater opportunities.

Our ideals express the reason Futuro Brillante exists and guide every action we take. Through our purpose, vision, and mission, we reaffirm our commitment to creating opportunities, strengthening capabilities, and fostering positive change in the communities of Cabo Velas.
Purpose
Our Purpose is to measurably enrich the lives of local community members by serving as a platform and catalyst for change.
Mission
Our Mission is to provide the residents of the District of Cabo Velas with educational opportunities, infrastructure improvements, and the development of entrepreneurial and technical skills, while also promoting environmental ethics and social change.
Vision
Our Vision is for Futuro Brillante to truly changes lives for the better. The groups and individuals we empower are vibrant examples of what communities can achieve when given the opportunities and resources to do so.
A Commitment Rooted in Community
The way we work begins with a close relationship with the communities of Cabo Velas. We listen to their needs, keep our doors open, and collaborate with organizations, institutions, and businesses to build relevant solutions and create stronger, more lasting impact.
We Are Part of the Community
Our campus is located in the heart of Matapalo, 25 meters north of the Catholic church and on the east side of the sports field. This proximity allows us to maintain a direct and ongoing relationship with the community.
We Respond to Real Needs
Our projects are shaped by the needs shared by local residents through open and ongoing communication. We keep our doors open to welcome, listen to, and support people from Matapalo and throughout the Cabo Velas district.
We Achieve More by Working Together
Collaboration with public institutions, community committees and associations, educational centers, and private companies is fundamental to our work. These partnerships allow us to expand the reach of our projects and create stronger, more sustainable impact.

Matapalo: Community, Connection, and Opportunity
Matapalo is a traditional Guanacaste community located in the Cabo Velas district and the place where Futuro Brillante has put down its roots. Surrounded by remarkable natural beauty and shaped by a strong cultural identity, Matapalo is known for its traditions, music, dance groups, and close-knit community spirit.
At the heart of Matapalo is the Futuro Brillante Campus, a community space created to bring people, initiatives, and opportunities together. Built with the support of the Rotary Club of Lakewood, and CoHOPE, the Campus serves as a gathering place for learning, volunteering, community activities, and the partnerships that make our programs possible.
More than a physical headquarters, the Campus allows us to stay close to the community, listen to its needs, and respond through programs focused on education, wellbeing, and development opportunities. It is an open space where families, organizations, public institutions, businesses, and volunteers can come together and work toward shared goals.
From Matapalo, our work also reaches the communities of Lomas, La Garita Vieja, Lajas de Matapalo, Playa Grande, Salinitas, Puerto Viejo, and Playa Real, strengthening our presence and commitment throughout the Cabo Velas district.

Across different areas of work, each team member contributes their experience, knowledge, and dedication to service to strengthen our programs, support families, and turn every initiative into meaningful opportunities for growth.
Karen Morán
Executive Director
As Executive Director of the Futuro Brillante Foundation since 2026, I’m passionate about building genuine relationships with partners, donors, and communities who share this vision. I have more than fifteen years of experience leading community development spaces, organizations, and processes across Costa Rica and Latin America. Outside of work, I love spending time at the beach with family and friends, and I really enjoy outdoor activities and sports. For me, leading with purpose and living with authenticity always go hand in hand.
Loren Quesada
Campus Manager
Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of growing both professionally and personally alongside our foundation. I am incredibly proud to be part of this extraordinary team that dedicates its daily efforts to transforming lives and achieving our shared vision.
I deeply enjoy providing support to both my colleagues and members of the community. In my free time, I find joy in dancing, coloring mandalas, and designing miniature gardens; however, my greatest passion is spending quality time with my family.
Karen Robles
Programs Coordinator
I am originally from San José and have lived in Guanacaste for more than five years, a land that I now feel is my home. Since October 2024, I have been part of this team, where I coordinate, manage, and execute social programs that seek to strengthen the development, well-being, and opportunities of our communities. I am currently a Holistic Therapist and a Psychology student, disciplines that complement my vocation of accompanying people from a comprehensive, human, and conscious perspective.
Yessenia Hernández
Administrative and Program Assistant
I have been part of Fundación Futuro Brillante since 2016 and currently serve as the Program and Administrative Assistant. I enjoy working as part of a team, supporting others, and continuing to learn. In my free time, I enjoy crafting and spending time with my family.
