During the last week of March 2017, volunteers from the Saving Hearts Foundation based in Los Angeles California, came to Guanacaste to provide free EKG screenings to children in local elementary schools in the region. More than 400 children received the free test in the communities of Matapalo, La Garita Vieja, Huacas, Brasilito and Playa Potrero. The test is used to detect congenital heart abnormalities that could lead to sudden cardiac arrest or even death. Reserva Conchal co-sponsored the campaign and free tests were also provided to their employees’ children and to the Santa Cruz Youth Swim Team. Doctors from Hospital Metropolitano volunteered their services by reviewing all of the results and making diagnoses as necessary. More than 20 local volunteers also served as translators throughout the week. Many thanks to all who were involved to make this an incredibly successful campaign!
